My Week on Instagram #32

Hi guys!
I have another smaller MWOI post for you today! I really have not been taking as many photos as I thought I was going to since I've been back, and now that I've started working, I don't know how much I will be posting in the future! This week I only have one photo to share with you, but if you want to see other MWOI posts, click here!

Saturday 5/28
My mom and I had eye doctors appointments downtown on Saturday, so afterwards we got something to eat! We both got drinks from teapresso, which was amazing (I got the thai tea) and we got garlic chicken udon salads from Marukame, which was also incredible!

So that's pretty much it for this week's MWOI post! Leave a comment letting me know what types of videos/blog posts you'd like to see this summer, and don't forget to follow me on instagram @miss_sienna!

Minimalist Makeup Collection

Hi guys!
I have gotten rid of the majority of my makeup collection when I moved to college and during my travels. I thought that I would share the items that I have and do a "minimalist" makeup collection! I am well aware that this isn't super minimalist, but it is for me (and compared to other beauty gurus!)

Give this video a thumbs up and subscribe if you liked it! Also, let me know in the comments what other blog posts or videos you'd like to see!

Minimizing and Packing

I've been spending a lot of time these past few weeks trying to minimize my belongings. As I'm writing this, I am currently in the midst of packing my belongings up so I can move out of my dorm. I have always really aligned with a minimalist lifestyle in theory. In reality, I'm not so much of a minimalist. That's all changed this past week as I pick through my belongings one by one and determine whether it's important enough to keep or if I can get rid of it.

My Week on Instagram #31

Hey guys!
For all of you that don't know, I do a weekly series on my post where I give you the behind the scenes on my instagram posts! This week's post is going to be a little shorter than usual because although I've been back home, I just haven't been taking many pictures to post! If you've missed any of the previous posts, you can check them out here!

Monday was so great because I got to get my boba! I went to the Panda Express close to my house because it has a tea bar (why can't all pandas have one!) and I got the oolong tea, half sweetened, with boba! It was also happy hour, so I got it discounted!

Let me know in the comments what other blog posts and videos you'd like to see from me! A room tour is going up very soon, and I think a bikini collection video will be filmed tomorrow, but let me know if there's anything else you're dying to see!

Guilt Free Fries Recipe!

A ton of vegan bloggers have posted pictures of baked "fries." I'm pretty sure that Loni Jane and BonnyRebecca both have recipes in their ebooks, but for those of you that don't want to spend the money, I have a similar recipe for you here! These are oil free, low fat, and can be low sodium depending on the seasonings you use with them!

So the video is a lot more in depth, but here's the general step by step. Adjust the cooking times and temps for your altitude and humidity, and don't be afraid to play around with this!

1) Cut your potatoes (the smaller/thinner, the faster they'll cook)
2) Place "wet side up" and sprinkle seasoning on it (I love oregano and thyme, but chili or curry sounds pretty good too!) on a nonstick baking pan. If you want this to be no fat, don't grease the pan (they shouldn't stick anyway).
note: I like to refrain from salting until the very end, right before consuming. If you salt now, it will dissolve and you'll probably end up using more than necessary.
3) Bake in a 300°F oven for around 8-12 minutes (until they start visibly drying on the top). Keep in mind, depending on size this can take longer/shorter.
4) Flip, season the other side, and place back in oven for another 8-12 minutes.
5) Once it starts browning, turn the oven up to 400°F and flip the potatoes a final time. Keep your eye on it, it will start browning faster! This should take roughly 5 minutes.

I am going to experiment with a battered fry recipe to see if I can get this even crunchier and better! Let me know in the comments if you'll try this out, give this video a thumbs up, and don't forget to subscribe! Also let me know what types of recipe vids you'd like to see in the future!

Healthy Coffee Shop Swaps

When you want to meet someone, where do you go? To get coffee. Coffee is life. Yet coffee might not be the best for our health. When you load your coffee with syrups and sugar, your coffee can change from being a 5 calorie cup to over 100. Here are some easy coffee shop swaps that can help keep you healthy.

1) Alternative Milks
A lot of people are sensitive to lactose or have some form of lactose intolerance. And the thing is, most people that are lactose intolerance don't realize it. By switching to another milk (soy or coconut if you're at starbucks, maybe almond if you're elsewhere) you can save yourself some of the bloating and discomfort that comes with dairy. Dairy has also been linked to acne in some people, so by switching your daily latte to a soy latte, you can clear your skin.

2) Real Sugar
A lot of people gravitate towards the zero calorie sweeteners at coffee shops so they can lower their calorie intake. I suggest going with the full sugar syrup instead because it's natural. Your body runs on glucose (sugar), so we need to stop thinking of sugar as a bad thing. I don't believe that fake sugar gives you cancer (contrary to what some believe) and there hasn't been any proven consequences of fake sugar except that in some people, it makes them more likely to binge on sugary foods later in the day. Don't trick yourself with this zero calorie nonsense, if you want a mocha, treat yourself and get a real-sugar mocha.

3) Size Down
If you're at Starbucks, maybe get a tall instead of a veinti. You'll be saving yourself calories and fat, but you'll also be lowering your caffeine intake. Caffeine is a psychoactive drug, so treat it as such. If you're going to be using tip one at Starbucks, I might suggest getting a veinti of whatever drink you want with soy or coconut milk, and saving half for the next day. Starbucks charges $.60 when you sub plant milk regardless of size, so it is most cost efficient to buy a large one and split it over the next few days. If you're at a local coffee shop, you might not have a choice of size. But at these places, a normal size is around 12-16 ounces, which is like a tall-grande. As long as you're not going for the massive caffeine hits, you should be good!

Coffee is such a personal thing, and I would never want to tell you how to get your drink. These are just three tips that I use whenever I'm at a coffee shop so I can stay feeling my best. Before all of this, remember that coffee and caffeine is not, and should not, be a replacement for sleep. Take care of yourself and then treat yourself with a coffee every now and again. Let me know how you stay healthy at Starbucks or other coffee shops in the comments!

My Week on Instagram #30

Hey guys!
Sorry that this post is a day late, but I've been re-acclimating to life back home in Hawaii and I totally forgot to write this! There are a lot of photos about my flight home (if you don't know the story, you might want to read this first), so get ready for that!

Monday 5/9/16
I posted this two days before I left Reno to go back home to Hawaii! This picture was actually taken over winter break, probably in December, but I didn't post it until recently because I never really had an occasion to!

This picture was taken a really long time ago, but I wanted to post something, so I filtered it and put the caption. I actually posted this picture the second time that we were boarded onto the flight during the hour of waiting before the flight was canceled.

Thursday 5/12/16
This was the picture of my hotel room! It was super nice and really large! United booked us rooms at the Hilton Union Square in San Francisco, but I was only there long enough to shower and sleep for an hour before heading back to the airport!

I made it!!! This picture was taken from my window when we were descending into HNL. I was snapping my whole travel ordeal and because I posted instagram posts about the delay/cancellation, I thought I should wrap it up and let everyone know I got home okay!

Not very many of my friends are home yet (most people get back within 3-5 weeks), but of the friends that were here in Hawaii, I went to lunch with two of them! This restaurant was EVERYTHING! They had all you can eat bread, but not just any bread, really freaking amazing bread! I had like 7 pieces because they had crazy variety and I wanted to try everything! (The croissant was def my fav). I didn't take any pictures of it, so I can't write a post on my travel blog, but then again that gives me a reason to go back! :P

I hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know in the comments what types of blog posts and videos you would like to see in the future!

Storytime: My Flight from HELL

I have had the 10/10 worst flight in my life flying home from Reno, Nevada. I had to deal with five hour delays, a flight cancellation, getting no sleep, more flight delays, and inadequate compensation. This was seriously just the worst.

My Week on Instagram #29

Hey guys!
It's Monday, so it's time for another MWOI post! If you're new here, this is the weekly series that I do where I share the behind the scenes of my instagram pictures. To see all my previous posts, click here! This week's post will be pretty short and sweet, so let's jump in!

Thursday 5/5/16
I posted this picture because I wanted something to post! Haha that sounds completely lame, I know, but sometimes you just want to post something! This picture was taken over winter break when I was back home in Hawaii. This was early in the morning at Waikiki beach when I was staying at a hotel with my family. I don't typically go to the beach, and I definitely don't go as much as I'd like to. That's definitely changing this summer! When I posted this, there were only six more days until I get home (as I'm typing this, there's only two more days).

So that's it for this week's post! Make sure you're following me @miss_sienna so you can catch all of my instagram pictures! And let me know in the comments what types of posts/videos you'd like me to create once I get back home!

7 Things I Learned About Eating Healthy in College

The Freshman 15 is real!
Okay, not for me (I actually lost some weight this year), but for a lot of people, it is. This has been my first year of eating what I want, when I want, and I've learned a lot. Here are my 7 biggest tips about eating healthy in college.

My Biggest College Pet Peeve

College: teenagers getting their first taste of independence. It seems like the perfect place for annoyances to accumulate with young adults straddling the line between adulthood and childhood dependence. I have a pretty high tolerance for bullshit, but today, I'm going to share with you the one thing that bothers me more than anything else in college. This is my biggest college pet peeve:

People not taking responsibility for their education and blaming others for their problems.

5 Things I'll Miss About Dorming

The semester is coming to an end, and I've been packing like crazy. While there are a lot of downsides about living in a dorm (cramped quarters, shared spaces...) there are also benefits. Here are the five things I'll miss most about dorming next year when I'm living in an off campus apartment.

Met Gala: Best Dressed

The Met Gala was last night and it's always fun seeing how celebrities dress to the theme. Last night's theme was "Manus X Machina: Fashion in the Age of Technology," so there was plenty of chrome and sparkle. Here are my four favorite looks of the night.
