7 Ways To Become Re-Inspired and Motivated

Inspiration is fleeting. Some days you know what you want, you know what you need to do, and you do it. Other days, you're lost. You feel unmotivated, uninspired, and end up feeling worse because you never end up accomplishing much. We all go through low periods, but it's how you bounce back that matters. Here's 7 tips to re-inspire you and re-invigorate your life.

1) Try Something New
There's this quote from Gossip Girl (of all things lol) that I think really resonates with me. It's "if you're work's too safe, do something dangerous." That quote was to Dan by his writing mentor, so out of context it doesn't make a ton of sense. But the gist of it is that if you are stuck in routine you should do something new and out of your comfort zone. You might love what you try or you might end up hating it, but at least you're living and experiencing something new!

*if you're wondering what episode it's from, I think it's from "The Serena Also Rises" in season 2

2) Stay Social
Sometimes it's not a thing that inspires you, but a person or people. Make sure that you stay in touch with your friends and that you go out for lunch or coffee. It's so tempting to stay inside in your pajamas and watch netflix all day, but that won't inspire you or motivate you to do anything. Talk to people that challenge you intellectually. Talk to people that are different than you. Stay social and you'll find that you'll be inspired to take control of your life again.

3) Watch Wisely
I like watching television and youtube during those moments when I feel unmotivated and uninspired, but I make sure that I'm watching things that will motivate me in some sense. For example, I love watching Shark Tank because I always feel motivated from it and I always feel like I learn something new. Try to watch a lot of authentic shows that mimic reality. I know that Gossip Girl or 90210 can be addicting, but try watching travel shows (The Layover on Netflix is really good) or cooking shows because those are actually going to teach you something.

4) Find Inspiration in People
This might be somewhat controversial because I know a lot of people are really against using people as inspiration, but this is what works for me. Try to find someone who's story resonates with you. That could be a celebrity, a successful person in your industry, it could even be a fictional character! The main point is that you find someone that you look up to and aspire to be like. Then you can start doing small things everyday to get yourself closer to being like them (not in like a creepy way). Just little things like going to your college classes if you've been ditching the past couple weeks, pumping out more youtube videos, exercising harder...

5) Reflect and Express Gratitude
Writing is my favorite way to reflect although you should do whatever works best for you, whether that's through art, writing, video or something else. Focus on the things that bring you happiness in the day, acknowledge them, and reflect on them. This is so important because you'll start to realize that there are certain things that make you happy (like biking, cooking, a certain class...). Now that you know what makes you happy you can pursue it and give it a larger role in your life.

6) Stop Being a Victim
Let's get real. The most annoying people in life are the victims. The ones that always have an excuse for why they aren't able to do something. The ones that blame other people or outside sources for their failures in life. If you're stuck in a victim mentality, you need to make a conscious choice to harden up and get out of it. Everyday you are faced with two choices: to stay the same and wallow in your pity or to try and improve and get better.

7) Let Yourself Feel Un-Inspired
I think that society now kind of makes it seem like everyone my age needs a game plan and a huge goal and that if you don't, you're strange. Feeling un-inspired can be a blessing in disguise sometimes. It can give you some time to breathe and chill away from the stress that can occur when you're trying to do everything all the time. You don't need to be inspired and motivated 24/7 and you're not lazy if you need some time to process everything at a slower pace. But if you want to get back to that state where you feel motivated and want to go out and do things, then maybe try using some of the other tips.

With time, you'll figure out what works best for you when you get in to different funks. Let me know in the comments what you like to do when you feel un-motivated and un-inspired!
