5 Ways To Have More Energy

In every office and classroom there's that person. That person that always looks happy, energetic and ready for life. That person that's always so alive compared to the "zombies" on their third cup of coffee. Well, guess what?!? You can be that person. Here's five ways to have more energy (that don't involve massive amounts of caffeine). 

1) Hydration
So many people are dehydrated and don't even know it. You need to be well hydrated otherwise your brain won't function optimally. The easiest way to tell if you're dehydrated is to look at your urine. If it's anything darker than a pale yellow, you need to be drinking a lot more! There are also so many great apps to help remind you when to drink. One of my friends uses Plant Nanny (I think that's what it's called...) and loves it!

2) Get Enough Sleep
You should be getting at least seven hours of sleep, but if your body tells you that you need eight or nine or ten hours of sleep, listen to it! You won't have energy if you're tired (duh!) and caffeine just masks the symptoms without treating the cause. Plus everyone can carve out the time for sleep! Just watch less tv, prioritize more, and get stuff done during your day!

3) Food
The first part of this is remembering to eat regularly. This means eating breakfast, snacks if you get hungry throughout the day, and making sure you never get to the point where you're starving. The second part is to make sure you're eating the right types of foods. This means whole, plant based foods. Carbs are energy, so make sure you're filling up on fruit and starches. 

4) Exercise
You don't really need to exercise a ton. Just getting in some walking or biking will help immensely! You want to get the blood pumping (bonus points if you do it in the morning) and it's such a great way to get a jump start in the morning. If you can't exercise a ton, make sure you're standing every hour and that you're not sitting for long periods of time. Walk to the bathroom, fill up your water bottle, walk to the printer, just make sure you're not excessively sedentary. 

5) Get Up!
Hitting the snooze button has been proven to not really do much. It's not long enough to get you back in to your REM sleep and just makes you more tired throughout the day. Getting a good start to the day is the easiest way to make sure you have energy! Set out your clothes for the next day, put your alarm on the other side of the room, do whatever you can to get yourself up and at it right when your alarm goes off!

  5. I always alwayyyyyyyyyyys hit the snooze!!!! I actually think its time to buy one of those alarms that flies, so I actually have to get up to turn it off! As I agree, I really need and want more energy and this point reminded me that I really need to work on that! Great post :)
