My Week on Instagram #19

Happy Monday and leap day everyone! It's time for another My Week on Instagram post! This week is a little lighter on posts, so let's get in to it!

Thursday 2/25

My Thursday was spent watching the Eddie online for over six hours :P If you don't know what the Eddie is, it's a big wave surfing competition that only happens when the waves hit 20 ft in Waimea Bay. It hasn't happened in a very long time, so it was a huge deal! Full disclosure, this picture wasn't taken in Hawaii (I think), but a beach is a beach right?

Friday 2/26
This is a video of my sister performing in a talent show at her school. She did the hula hoop and spinning plates at the same time to music! To be honest, this video looks a little better in color, but she was wearing red and the plate was yellow and it would've messed with my feed! Haha that sounds totally shallow, but really, I'm proud of her and I wanted to share this with my friends (especially because tons of them have tried to do the spinning plates at my house and have failed!)

I hope you enjoyed this post! If you did, let me know in the comments! Also, make sure to follow this blog on bloglovin because I have tons of exciting things in the works for you!

My Starbucks Order

I'm pretty darn obsessed with Starbucks and this semester I've been going at least once a week between classes. I've tried a lot of different drinks from Starbucks, but now I have a few drinks that I switch between regularly! Here are my starbucks orders!

1) Iced Soy Green Tea Latte (sweetened)
I am obsessed with this! I like getting it iced because I feel like you get more bang from your buck because it doesn't have foam on top like the hot ones have. I get it soy because I am lactose intolerant and I just don't feel the best with a lot of dairy in me (even if I take my lactase before it). Getting it soy is supposed to add $0.45 to it or something like that, but the Starbucks I go to 9 times out of 10 forgets to add on the charge, so it really doesn't cost me anything more!

2) Iced Black Tea (sweetened)
This is my go-to when I want something sweet and refreshing. I like all the iced teas, but the black one is my personal favorite and I like it sweetened instead of unsweetened.

3) Americano (black)
4) Blonde Roast (black)
When I want a coffee drink, I go either for an Americano or a blonde roast. I like americanos because it isn't too bitter like some coffees can be, but isn't strong like an espresso. I also like the blonde roast because it has more caffeine than darker roasts, but doesn't have that strong bitter taste and is a lot milder than other ones. With that being said, sometimes I need a packet of sugar in the blonde roast to make it more palatable.

5) Youthberry tea
I like getting youthberry tea when I want a hot tea. It is fruity and sweet without needing sugar. They will brew this with two tea bags, but you really don't need to. I like to get it brewed with one tea bag and have the barista give me the second tea bag so I can use it at home later!

I love Starbucks and I love trying new drinks, but these are the five that I continue to come back to time and time again. Let me know in the comments what your starbucks order is and if there is anything I need to try out!

9 Swimsuits for Spring Break

We're a month away from spring break, so I thought that it'd be fun to share some swimwear inspo with you! Swimwear isn't cheap, so some of these items are pricey, but if you take care of them right, swimsuits can last forever! I'm going to Portland, Oregon for spring break, so I won't be using swimsuits outside of the hotel pool, but if you're going somewhere tropical, check these out!

I like a lot of black in my swimwear because it's slimming and sexy at the same time. I also like a lot of cut outs and details in my swimwear because it adds something different from a basic triangle top. I've also been loving one pieces lately (haha I bought one over winter break), and I think that they can be a really awesome look and can be a good fashion statement with shorts over the top of them and heels for a night out!

This is shopable, so click on a swimsuit if you'd like to buy it! Also, let me know in the comments what other posts you'd like to see in the future!

Blueberry Mochi Recipe

I have a recipe for blueberry mochi today! I filmed this by myself when I was home in Hawaii, so the quality is not the best, but this is one of my favorite things to bake and it always ends up incredible!

Let me know if you try this recipe! You can also substitute other fruits for the canned blueberries, but I've always liked the taste of blueberries the best! Also, don't forget to subscribe to my youtube channel by clicking here because I post weekly videos!

My Week on Instagram #18

This post marks 4.5 months of "My Week on Instagrams," which is absolutely insane! The last couple weeks (if you missed them, click here!) were a little light on the pictures, but that all changes this week! Let's get started!

Tuesday: 2/16/16
It was so warm and beautiful on Tuesday, which was amazing! It was the nicest day we've had in a while, but then it snowed a couple days later, which we'll get to next!

Thursday: 2/18/16
...then on Thursday it snowed. It was insanely snowing and blizzarding when I was walking between classes, which is when I took this picture to send to my dad. Then I got out of math class... and all the snow was melted...

Friday: 2/19/16That was my mom's birthday, so I wanted to post something! This picture was taken by my brother with my dslr at my graduation. It was one of the nicest pictures of us that I hadn't posted yet and I loved how the black and white really intensified the contrast and made everything look dimensional!

Saturday: 2/20/19
The next day was my dad's birthday! How crazy is it that their birthdays are back to back?!? My dad tends to make really dumb faces in pictures, so I couldn't find anything recent to post. This was an old picture of my brother and I with my dad at disneyland or some theme park when we were little! I found it in a box of my old stuff when I was home over winter break and took a picture of the picture, so I had it on my phone.

I hope that you guys enjoyed this post! If you aren't already following me on instagram, my handle is @miss_sienna!

Everyday Makeup Routine

Hi guys!
I filmed this video when I was back in Hawaii over winter break and thought I would post it now! It's my everyday makeup routine. I know that it's not as flashy or bold as some other tutorials on the internet, but it's really fast and looks consistently good, which is really important for me because I don't have much time to get ready in the morning! Here we go!

I hope that you enjoyed this video! If you wanted to switch it up, a heavier liner, bold lip, or contouring could really step this up! I usually go out just like that, but this is a good base for your creativity (if you want to see this with a bold lip, check out this video!) Give this video a thumbs up if you liked it, and click here to subscribe to my channel!

My Week on Instagram #17

Hi guys!
So I didn't get a chance to post this on Monday because I wanted to get the giveaway up! But that's okay because this will be another short My Week on Instagram post! If you're new here, this is the series I do every week where I share the behind the scenes of my instagram pics!

A photo posted by SIENNA ☄ (@miss_sienna) on

My sister's birthday was on the 11th, so I thought that I'd do one of those HBD posts (heads up, my parent's birthdays are at the end of this week, so there will be plenty more HBD posts comin!) I took this picture over the summer at our house and it was the picture that she looked the cutest in!

On Saturday I got an edible arrangement from my family! I still have a couple of these berries left, which I'm probably going to end up eating today and tomorrow! They were so good, and I was so surprised that I got a valentine's day treat since I'm perpetually single!

So I hope you enjoyed this shorter My Week on Instagram post! I keep saying that I want to post more, and I do, but these posts are nice when they're shorter! Also, make sure you enter my chapstick giveaway by clicking here!

Keep Moisturized with ChapStick + GIVEAWAY (CLOSED)!

As most of you know, this is the first winter I'm spending away from Hawaii and it has definitely been a major adjustment for me! Back home I never had to worry about moisturizing and staying extra hydrated because the temperature and weather never really changed, but now I've been so careful about moisturizing. Chapstick was so amazing and sent me 12 of their lip balms to try out and are letting me host a giveaway for you! If you want to win a prize package from them, you just have to leave a comment below and follow me on bloglovin (full rules will be at the end of this post!)

So first off, let's talk about the different formulations. I could stumble through comparing all of these, but instead I thought it'd be easier to pull the information from the ChapS
tick website!

From the makers of a lip care brand you know and love, ChapStick® Classic Range soften and protect lips, leaving them silky and smooth for every day wear. It’s the one that made ChapStick® America’s favorite lip balm, and it has remained a beauty staple since the brand’s inception more than 100 years ago, continuing to protect and moisturize lips every day! Keep it Original, toss in fun fruity flavors like Cherry and Strawberry, or keep it fresh with Spearmint; these ChapStick® Classic Range varieties are perfect for ever day wear.

Provide your lips with a little extra TLC using ChapStick® Medicated. Whether you are feeling under the weather or just need that extra boost of hydration, ChapStick® Medicated quickly soothes and seals in moisture with a light, protective barrier to help heal dry, chapped lips.

Winter or summer, quench a thirsty pout and protect your lips with ChapStick® Moisturizers. Delivering an ultra hydrating formula, with ingredients, like Aloe and Vitamin, and fun lip-locking flavors, like Green Apple, Vanilla Mint, Raspberry CrΓ¨me and Original, say hello to delicious hydration for lips!

ChapStick® Sun Defense offers a conditioning formula, including sun protection with SPF 25, defending skin all year long. Winter, spring, summer and fall, ChapStick® Sun Defense prevents and temporarily protects chafed, chapped or cracked lips.

Aloha! Treat your lips to a refreshing and fruitful getaway with tropical inspired, fresh fruit flavors reminiscent of warm weather and an island breeze with ChapStick® Tropical Paradise Collection.  Mix it up with Mango Sunrise or soak in Aloha Coconut.

Aloha Coconut will be available exclusively at Walmart stores nationwide while Mango Sunrise will be available at mass retailers and drug stores nationwide.

I've always loved ChapStick and that's the lip balm that I come back to time and time again. It is always consistently good, and I love how the packaging is so small that you can drop it in a pocket or clutch without it taking up too much space.

Now let's get in to the different types! I think everyone's familiar with the Classic Range. That's the one that I grew up using and the strawberry and cherry still have a special place in my heart. When I go to Walmart or Target, I'll most likely pick up one of those!

If you're looking for a good lip balm for the winter, I'd suggest the Sun Defense one. That might sound strange, but I think that sun protection during the winter is so important because snow reflects light really well, so you want something with a good SPF.

Now let's talk about the Tropical Paradise ones! Both of these are so quintessentially tropical and I love it! Aloha Coconut is incredible (I am so obsessed with coconut) and I would totally suggest picking one up if you see it around (especially if you're a coconut fanatic)!

One last thing! If you want some ChapSticks, but your Walmart or drugstore doesn't have the one you want, ChapStick has a great online store with free shipping on orders over $15! They still have some of the seasonal ones, which sounds really fun too! You can click here to see the full range!

GIVEAWAY: One of you can receive ChapStick products! All you need to do is follow me on bloglovin and leave a comment below. The giveaway will end on 2/21 and a winner will be picked shortly after. It is the winner's responsibility to get back to me within 72 hours otherwise a new winner will be picked (the winner will be announced here on my blog and facebook). You must be 18 or older (or have a parent's permission), live in the US, and have a valid shipping address (no PO boxes please!) The giveaway prize is going to be filled by Coyne PR, so please allow adequate shipping time.

7 Ways To Become Re-Inspired and Motivated

Inspiration is fleeting. Some days you know what you want, you know what you need to do, and you do it. Other days, you're lost. You feel unmotivated, uninspired, and end up feeling worse because you never end up accomplishing much. We all go through low periods, but it's how you bounce back that matters. Here's 7 tips to re-inspire you and re-invigorate your life.

1) Try Something New
There's this quote from Gossip Girl (of all things lol) that I think really resonates with me. It's "if you're work's too safe, do something dangerous." That quote was to Dan by his writing mentor, so out of context it doesn't make a ton of sense. But the gist of it is that if you are stuck in routine you should do something new and out of your comfort zone. You might love what you try or you might end up hating it, but at least you're living and experiencing something new!

*if you're wondering what episode it's from, I think it's from "The Serena Also Rises" in season 2

2) Stay Social
Sometimes it's not a thing that inspires you, but a person or people. Make sure that you stay in touch with your friends and that you go out for lunch or coffee. It's so tempting to stay inside in your pajamas and watch netflix all day, but that won't inspire you or motivate you to do anything. Talk to people that challenge you intellectually. Talk to people that are different than you. Stay social and you'll find that you'll be inspired to take control of your life again.

3) Watch Wisely
I like watching television and youtube during those moments when I feel unmotivated and uninspired, but I make sure that I'm watching things that will motivate me in some sense. For example, I love watching Shark Tank because I always feel motivated from it and I always feel like I learn something new. Try to watch a lot of authentic shows that mimic reality. I know that Gossip Girl or 90210 can be addicting, but try watching travel shows (The Layover on Netflix is really good) or cooking shows because those are actually going to teach you something.

4) Find Inspiration in People
This might be somewhat controversial because I know a lot of people are really against using people as inspiration, but this is what works for me. Try to find someone who's story resonates with you. That could be a celebrity, a successful person in your industry, it could even be a fictional character! The main point is that you find someone that you look up to and aspire to be like. Then you can start doing small things everyday to get yourself closer to being like them (not in like a creepy way). Just little things like going to your college classes if you've been ditching the past couple weeks, pumping out more youtube videos, exercising harder...

5) Reflect and Express Gratitude
Writing is my favorite way to reflect although you should do whatever works best for you, whether that's through art, writing, video or something else. Focus on the things that bring you happiness in the day, acknowledge them, and reflect on them. This is so important because you'll start to realize that there are certain things that make you happy (like biking, cooking, a certain class...). Now that you know what makes you happy you can pursue it and give it a larger role in your life.

6) Stop Being a Victim
Let's get real. The most annoying people in life are the victims. The ones that always have an excuse for why they aren't able to do something. The ones that blame other people or outside sources for their failures in life. If you're stuck in a victim mentality, you need to make a conscious choice to harden up and get out of it. Everyday you are faced with two choices: to stay the same and wallow in your pity or to try and improve and get better.

7) Let Yourself Feel Un-Inspired
I think that society now kind of makes it seem like everyone my age needs a game plan and a huge goal and that if you don't, you're strange. Feeling un-inspired can be a blessing in disguise sometimes. It can give you some time to breathe and chill away from the stress that can occur when you're trying to do everything all the time. You don't need to be inspired and motivated 24/7 and you're not lazy if you need some time to process everything at a slower pace. But if you want to get back to that state where you feel motivated and want to go out and do things, then maybe try using some of the other tips.

With time, you'll figure out what works best for you when you get in to different funks. Let me know in the comments what you like to do when you feel un-motivated and un-inspired!

My Week on Instagram #16

Hi guys!
This week's "My Week on Instagram" is pretty light on the pictures, like last week, but I have a couple pictures for you anyway! If you're new here, this is a weekly series that I do where I share a weeks worth of instagram posts and give you the behind the scenes! You can see all 15 previous weeks by clicking here!

Wednesday 2/3

Took this random picture at the student union. I got a soy green tea latte from Starbucks, which has been my favorite lately! I was trying to be pretty stealth when taking this picture, but I'm not sure if it worked! But I was watching a video from Drew the other day and he talked about how he uses the filter "Fade" when taking black and white heavy pictures and it is such a game changer! It made my picture look 100000X better!

Friday 2/5

Every year the school that I went to back in Hawaii has a huge carnival as a fundraiser for the financial aid program. This is from one of the first carnivals I went to when I was in Kindergarten with two of my friends. Every single year for the past 13 years we've taken this picture and it became tradition even though we've all gone our separate ways in life. I guess you could call it nostalgia, but it was kind of strange not being together, taking this picture, this year.

...And that's it! I'm sorry these past few weeks have been a little light on the pictures, but I'll try to make an effort to post more! Make sure you're following me on bloglovin so you'll be notified when new posts go live, and I'll be doing a small giveaway within the next couple weeks!

Should Women Feel Obligated to Vote for Clinton?

Okay, I usually like to stay away from politics on here because it's a touchy subject and isn't my specialty, but I'm making an exception today. I saw this article (you can see the whole thing here) about how two feminists, Gloria Steinem and Madeline Albright were telling young women not to vote for Bernie and to vote for Clinton. Here are a few of their quotes...

"There's a special place in hell for women that don't support other women!" -Albright

"When you're young, you're thinking: 'Where are the boys? The boys are with Bernie,' " -Steinem

Both of these statements are highly offensive and quite frankly insulting to women, especially younger ones. Would it be great to have a women as president? Sure! But that doesn't mean that women should feel obligated to vote for Hillary over Bernie.
To have big names try and pressure and guilt people in to voting for Hillary because "women should support other women" is disgusting. Furthermore, to imply that young voters are only voting for Bernie because that's what their male peers are doing is so anti-progressive. It's statements like these that turn people off from voting. Bernie has done a great job of getting young college aged people interested in politics and voting, and to suggest that it's only because that's what boys are doing is sad.
If you're turning this in to a feminist issue, it shouldn't matter if women are voting for Bernie or Clinton because both are going to continue to fund Planned Parenthood, both are going to try get maternity leave for women, and wage equality. Their platforms on women's issues are practically the same (although this article argues that Bernie's is stronger).

I think that for me and a lot of my peers, this endorsement actually turned us off of voting for Hillary Clinton. It's important to have a women as president, and I'm sure that it will happen eventually, but this is not the right way to go about it. It is more important to have women becoming informed voters and voting for whomever they feel is better for the job than having them vote for someone just because of their gender.

Update: So, Steinem's apologized for her statement and said that it was taken out of context. That may be true, but the blatant sexism is still apparent in these statements and my opinions still stand.

5 Ways To Have More Energy

In every office and classroom there's that person. That person that always looks happy, energetic and ready for life. That person that's always so alive compared to the "zombies" on their third cup of coffee. Well, guess what?!? You can be that person. Here's five ways to have more energy (that don't involve massive amounts of caffeine).

1) Hydration
So many people are dehydrated and don't even know it. You need to be well hydrated otherwise your brain won't function optimally. The easiest way to tell if you're dehydrated is to look at your urine. If it's anything darker than a pale yellow, you need to be drinking a lot more! There are also so many great apps to help remind you when to drink. One of my friends uses Plant Nanny (I think that's what it's called...) and loves it!

2) Get Enough Sleep
You should be getting at least seven hours of sleep, but if your body tells you that you need eight or nine or ten hours of sleep, listen to it! You won't have energy if you're tired (duh!) and caffeine just masks the symptoms without treating the cause. Plus everyone can carve out the time for sleep! Just watch less tv, prioritize more, and get stuff done during your day!

3) Food
The first part of this is remembering to eat regularly. This means eating breakfast, snacks if you get hungry throughout the day, and making sure you never get to the point where you're starving. The second part is to make sure you're eating the right types of foods. This means whole, plant based foods. Carbs are energy, so make sure you're filling up on fruit and starches.

4) Exercise
You don't really need to exercise a ton. Just getting in some walking or biking will help immensely! You want to get the blood pumping (bonus points if you do it in the morning) and it's such a great way to get a jump start in the morning. If you can't exercise a ton, make sure you're standing every hour and that you're not sitting for long periods of time. Walk to the bathroom, fill up your water bottle, walk to the printer, just make sure you're not excessively sedentary.

5) Get Up!
Hitting the snooze button has been proven to not really do much. It's not long enough to get you back in to your REM sleep and just makes you more tired throughout the day. Getting a good start to the day is the easiest way to make sure you have energy! Set out your clothes for the next day, put your alarm on the other side of the room, do whatever you can to get yourself up and at it right when your alarm goes off!

Let's stop being sleep zombies and start living life to the fullest! Let me know your tips for having more energy in the comments below!

My Week on Instagram #15

Haha I feel bad for even making this a post this week because I only have one picture to write about, but I've been so consistent these past three months that I didn't want to stop now! If you're new here, I do these "My Week on Instagram" posts every Monday (you can see all the previous ones here) to show you guys the behind the scenes of my instagram posts! My instagram name is @miss_sienna if you'd like to follow me too! :)

Thursday 1/28:
The only post I did this week was a throwback Thursday one! Haha but this was taken in December 2014 when I was skiing at Mount Rose with my family. Now let's talk about the clothes here... None of us have ever gone skiing before, but our uncle has, so me and my brother are wearing his ski clothes (yes, he has a pink ski jacket) and my sister is wearing my cousin's. I haven't been skiing since then, but my brother went snowboarding with his class in Japan last week. I think my sister wants to go skiing again in the future :P

I hope that you enjoyed this really short post! If you want to see more pictures from that ski trip, you can check out my post on my travel blog here! Also, let me know what other types of posts you'd like to see in the comments!
