Weekend In My Life #1

Hey guys!
I have a new video for you! It's a "weekend in my life" video because I wanted to film a vlog and weekends tend to be more interesting than school days for me! I know a lot of you guys will think "this can't be right!" because there's a very obvious lack of partying, which a very college thing to do, but I am not a huge partier and this is pretty reflective of an average weekend! With that being said, I'll film more of these, so hopefully you'll see a more accurate portrayal of my life in time!

I hope you guys enjoyed this video! I'll be trying to post a video a week from now on (I'll post more if I can!), so if you're interested, please subscribe by clicking here! Also, let me know how you guys spend your weekend because I love hearing about your lives!

Let's Talk About Investing...

Hey guys!
I wanted to do this post today because I think investing is often overlooked for college students and young adults, but is super important for long term financial success. This post is a very "beginners" way to invest, but I'm assuming most of my readers (like me) don't have very much knowledge about this.

I, personally use Acorns. It's an app for iphones and androids that allows you to invest small amounts easily. The minimum amount that you can invest is $5, and if you use this link to sign up, they'll give you a $5 reward! I did a lot of research on this before deciding to use it, so I'll give you some of my pros and cons here!

Pros:

  • Super easy to use! You link it to a checking account, so it can automatically withdraw money on a weekly or monthly basis if you'd like.
  • Round up is a feature that allows you to sync a credit or debit card to your Acorns account. It rounds up every purchase to the nearest dollar and invests it once it reaches a $5 threshold. For example if you bought a $1.47 coffee, Acorns would invest $.53.
  • Really intuitive interface! There are 5 different portfolios that you can choose from, and if you're unsure of what you should choose it'll recommend one. It also gives you projected values that are really interesting to see.
  • No minimums, and you can withdraw your money at any time
Cons:
  • There is a $1 monthly fee for accounts under $5,000 or a 0.25% annual fee for accounts over $5,000. If you're only investing small sums, this monthly fee might not seem worth it, but if you're under 24 or a student with a .edu email, there are no fees
Overall, I think that this is a really great way to start investing especially because you can invest whatever money you have available. Just some reminders, check with someone you trust like a parent or banker or someone if you have questions about investing, and remember that the money you invest is not insured and it's possible to lose money. Another app that is similar is Stash, but they don't have as many banks linked, so I couldn't personally use that.

Let me know in the comments if you use any investing apps, and if you're interested in trying Acorn, make sure to use this link to get $5 to start with!

Duck Boots!

Hey guys!
One of the biggest trends this fall and winter is going to be duck boots! These were first made popular by LL Bean, but are pretty much everywhere now! I am absolutely obsessed with this style because it's functional and pretty cute, so I thought I'd share my favs! As usual, this is shopable so click an image for more info!

If you are only going to get one pair of these, I would suggest something that's solid brown because I feel like that can go with everything! Sperry makes some really adorable ones that are visually my favorite, although Lands End, LL Bean, and some other companies have nice ones too!

Let me know if you have a pair or if you're going to get one this season! I just got a cheap pair from Target that I'm obsessed with! I'll link it here for you guys if you're interested, but I am so in love with mine because they're so comfortable and cute (and only $38)!

My Week On Instagram!

Hey guys!
It's been forever since one of these posts, but I wanted to do one! I'm writing this on 10/24, but I'm sure it'll be posted after that, so if you're looking at my instagram feed and thinking "this isn't from a week ago!", then that's why! My instagram username is @miss_sienna if you want to follow me, but be warned! I post a lot of selfies, food pictures, and throwbacks! In all honesty, though, instagram shows a very flat view of my life. It shows a picture, which is usually a product of a cool event and great timing, and a caption, which I edit and change to my liking. These posts help me share a little more into my life by giving you some info about where I was, what I was doing, and why I posted what I did, and I hope this is as interesting to you as it is to me!

Saturday - 10/17

I went to Dunkin Donuts for the first time in years! There used to be one in Hawaii a loooong time ago, but I haven't been to one in definitely close to a decade! I had a iced coffee and a glazed donut and it was heaven!

This is one of those throwback photos I'm talking about! Actually, this isn't much of a throwback, but it was a cute picture of my sister that my mom sent me three weeks ago that I wanted to post!

This is another throwback photo from this summer! It was taken at Universal Studios Hollywood when I was there a few months ago in Super Silly Fun Land! This is another thing where I was going through my camera roll, saw a picture, and decided to post it!

Thursday - 10/22
On Thursday, my grandparents came to Reno to visit me (and for a football game!), so we went out to lunch! It was at Homage bakery, which is pretty close to downtown Reno and was super delicious! I had a turkey sandwich, which was bomb af, my grandma had a quiche which she loved, and my grandpa had a pot pie, which he said was amazing as well!

Friday - 10/23
This is my homecoming week! On Friday, there was a huge parade starting from downtown, going up Virginia Street back to the campus quad! My dorm had a really funky "float", which was really a paper mache volcano on top of a car with some pig drawings taped on, but it was super fun and exciting! The lights on the volcano ended up shorting out, so that was kind of disappointing, though. But the overall parade was crazy and awesome because there were so many people and they shut down the whole street for this event!

I hope that this post was interesting for you! If it was, please let me know in the comments and I'll make this a more regular thing! Also, don't forget to follow this blog on bloglovin because it makes it super easy to get notifications when new posts go live!

Halloween Dorm Decor Tour!

Hi guys!
I posted this video on my youtube channel (subscribe here!) a while ago, and I'm usually really pretty good about sharing videos here within a few days, but I overlooked this one until now, and thought I would share because it's Halloweek!

All of these items used to decorate my dorm room were purchased from my local dollar tree! My suitemates and I split the cost, and we literally got everything for around $12 total!

I've been posting pretty regularly on my youtube channel lately, so if you like this video and want to see a little bit more of my life, definitely be sure to subscribe to me there! Also, I'm super interested to hear what you're interested in, so if you have topics you'd like me to write or make videos about, let me know down below!

Happy Halloweek, Witches!

Halloween Makeup!

Hi guys!
I haven't been able to do any halloween makeup tutorials this year, and I don't think I'll get around to it, but I wanted to do this post just to remind you of my halloween makeup tutorials from last year! These are all super general, and could go along with any gory/scary makeup looks and are really easy to do!

Black Eye Makeup Tutorial
All this takes is a little bit of eyeliner, lipstick, and eye shadow! It takes less than 10 minutes and is so scary looking!

Chopped Off Hands Tutorial
This would definitely be better if I had used a foundation that matched my skin tone, but oh well! This is a bit more extensive and it's really hard to make the lines straightish, so I would only suggest this if you have a bit of time!

Open Wound Tutorial
I definitely recommend this over the chopped hands one if you're short on time or want to be messier, as this one looks good a little imperfect. I did it on my hand because that was easiest, but it would look great on a face or chest as well!

Let me know in the comments what you're going to be for Halloween and how you're going to be doing your makeup! I'm not quite sure what I'm doing for Halloween yet as a lot of people at my college are going home for the weekend, and I'm not. But I'm going to Target tomorrow, so hopefully I'll find something cool there!

Why I Unfollowed Over 75 People on Instagram (and you should too)

Hi guys!
So today I'm talking about social media purging! Mostly about Instagram, because that's what I just did today, but this works for Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, anything and everything!

First, let's start off with the benefits of social media purging...
You will get rid of a big portion of your problems. If there are certain people who's accounts lead you to have a massive amount of FOMO, unfollow them! At the end of your purge, you will only be following people who inspire you, motivate you, and lead you to live your best life.

How I did it:
For me, I knew that the majority of people that I needed to purge was the people that I followed, but don't follow me back. This will be different for everyone, though. So I went in, and started going down the line. The first people that I unfollowed were people that are not on the same page as me. So anyone that posts pictures of partying a lot, I unfollowed because that's just not what I want to see all the time. Then I went through the list again and unfollowed anyone that I didn't know too well, and that didn't inspire me. These were like the acquaintances I made in high school that I haven't spoken to since graduation. Lastly, I went through once more and double checked that everyone I'm following makes me happy.

This is very time consuming, especially if you're like me and follow a ton of people, but it's so rewarding at the end when you realize how much excess clutter you got rid of! Like, I think there's a reason why Taylor Swift only follows 75 people... Next up, I think I'm going to do twitter. This is a lot harder because I follow sooooo many people on it, but it's definitely going to be worth it! Let me know how you like to social media purge in the comments below, and check out my instagram @miss_sienna!

At the Apple Orchards...

Hey guys!
I wanted to post a few pictures of my weekend here for you guys! I know that some of you follow my travel blog (Sisi Travels), and if you do, you've probably seen a lot of this already, but I thought I'd share again!

I went to Apple Hill in Camino/Placerville California, which was a good three hour drive away from Reno. I go in to more detail about where I went and what I did in this post, but I'm just going to share some pics here!

This weekend was so much fun and was the first "fall" type thing that I've ever done! It's still in the high 80s here in Reno right now, and I can't wait for it to cool down so I can start experiencing the seasons more! Go ahead and check out my travel blog if you haven't already! And leave comments below letting me know what other content you'd like to see!

Let's Talk About Money

Hi guys!
Today's post is a little different, but I thought it would be fun to do because it's so personal. Everyone has a different relationship with money, but I wanted to share my thoughts about it today because money has become increasingly important for me now that I'm in college and more aware of my spending.

So first off, I think a little background info would be helpful! I grew up in what I would describe as a upper middle class household, at least income-wise that's where I would classify it. We were always frugal though because private school took a huge chunk of our money and the cost of living in hawaii is ridiculous! When I was 17, I had a job at a retail store, but mostly for the experience because I didn't need the money as I'm not a huge spender and could support my personal expenses on my own. When I was making decisions about college, cost was a huge factor because I didn't want to take out loans.

I think that class and money are perceived to be correlated, and because I went to a private school, there was a lot of stigma attached with it. A lot of times people thought that I was rich, that I could buy anything I wanted, that I took trips three times a year. And while that is definitely true for some of my friends, that was never the case for me. I've always been very aware of how much I spend, and the financial state of my family, and that's really impacted the way I view expenses.

I honestly think that my relationship with money isn't all that healthy. My parents both have jobs where they can afford everything that they'd like us to have, but I feel guilty. I constantly feel like I should be contributing something more than I am. When I got a scholarship from an in state school that would essentially cover 90% of my tuition, my parents had to talk me out of accepting it just because I wanted to lessen the burden on them. Every time I go out shopping and charge "a lot" on a credit card that they pay off, I call them and say something along the lines of "I'm sorry, but I really needed this. You can take the money out of my account if you want." and they always say that it's fine, and that I don't have to apologize for buying necessities.

I know people who have had their parents take out loans so they can go to college, or who have taken out loans themselves and I'm really grateful that I am not in that situation, and if I was, that I would have been in a situation where I could have made a different decision about school and gone to a college I could have paid for myself. My relationship with money should probably be labeled "middle class dependent regret" or something similar. Obviously it pales in comparison to the real problems that others are facing, such as not having money, but it's a struggle nonetheless.

Money is a source of stress for many, but if there's one takeaway from this post, I guess it's this: if you're able to live happily in a stable financial situation, be thankful and appreciate it. Money stresses us out more than anything in this world, whether we have enough, need more, don't have enough, want this, that, blah blah blah. But worrying about it excessively is unnecessary, and unhealthy.

I bet there's at least one other person that feels the same way that I do about money. If you're that person, or even if you're not, leave a comment below letting me know your relationship with money or your thoughts on this post!

My Makeup Collection!

Hey guys!
I'm sure a lot of you already know, but over the summer I did a huge makeup purge before packing for college! My makeup collection is only around a fourth of what it was before, so I thought it would be fun to share my collection and set up with you guys in a video!

I'm very happy with my paired down makeup collection right now, and I don't really have plans to purchase any more makeup (with the exception of a couple vampy lip colors!) Purging is one of the hardest things to do, especially if you're a makeup hoarder like many of us are, but it was so worthwhile because I use everything I own now!

Let me know in the comments what other types of videos you'd like to see, and please give this video a thumbs up and subscribe for more! I think I'm going to start doing less tutorial type videos just because I'm unsure of how to film them right now, and start doing more "life" type videos if that makes sense!

Fall Sweaters & Cardigans Wishlist!

Hey guys!
I wanted to do another wishlist post because it's now officially fall, and sweater weather (except not in Nevada quite yet...)! But I found a few really cool sweater/cardigan type things that I needed to share!
So I'm really into flowy sweaters that you can pair with leggings or skinny jeans because I think they look good on everyone! I tend to stick to neutrals in my closet, but I love that first one because it's such a fun print!

I can't wait for it to get cooler here because I've never experienced an "actual" fall before because Hawaii's pretty much the same year round! Get ready for a bunch of OOTDs because I'm going to be taking tons of pictures!

I forgot to mention it earlier, but this is shopable, so click on an image if you'd like more information! Also, let me know in the comments what types of videos or blog posts you'd like to see! I know a lot of you guys loved the What I Eat in a Day video, so I'll definitely do another!

What's In My Fridge?

Hey guys!
I know that I did a food collection type post not too long ago, but I decided to do one in video form too! Keep in mind that most of this is meal replacements and snack foods as I eat lunch and dinner in the caf pretty much every day!

So since filming the video, I got a huge 20 can case of diet coke because it was on sale at Walmart, but besides that, everything's pretty much the same! I hope you enjoyed this video, if you did give it a thumbs up and sub! Also, let me know what types of videos and blog posts you'd like to see in the comments below!

Fall Lipsticks Wishlist

Hi guys!
It's now starting to feel like fall! The weather's changing, the temperature's dropping, and Pumpkin Spice Latte's are back in Starbucks! To celebrate Fall, I thought that I'd do a fall lipsticks wishlist for you! This is shopable, so if you like a color, click on the image! Let's get started!

During the Fall, I'm all about those reds and purples! I am loving that oxblood shade that is popular every fall, but I also am really digging the brick red! Brown tones are also some of my favorites this time of year because it's a nice way to deepen up a nude, and make it a little bit edgier and more appropriate for this time of year! Formulation wise, you see pretty much the old tried and trues, but Gucci is up there a lot! I have never tried any Gucci makeup, but these lippies look incredible! It's definitely on the top of my wishlist!

Let me know down below what colors you're loving for fall, and if there's any in particular I need to check out! Also, don't forget to follow this blog on bloglovin if you aren't already! It's the number one way to stay up to date with this blog :)

I hope you enjoyed this video! If you did, please SUBSCRIBE and give this video a thumbs up! It seriously helps me out a lot! Also, let me know what other videos you'd like to see! I already have a makeup collection and a what's in my fridge video ready to go up, but I need more ideas!
