Blogging Tip: Know Your Worth!

It's been a while since my last blogging tip post, I actually think that the last one was a part of my "Starting a Blog" series, which you can read here! I was tempted to put this post in that series, but this isn't just a tip for beginners, but rather for us blogging pros and newbies alike! So let's start off with a story...

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Sisi who ran a beauty and lifestyle blog. She was constantly asked by companies to write reviews on products she's never used, or websites that she knew nothing about for free. Being the cute, naive blogger she was, she said yes. The brand got free exposure, while she got nothing

Don't be Sisi!

Marketing through blogging is smart. Brands know that, and it's about time that us bloggers realize it too! We are providing a service, and we should be adequately compensated for that service. I'm not going to go into pricing in this post (if you'd like more on that, leave a comment below), but this needs to be a two way exchange. If compensation for you is exposure without getting paid, great! If it's making money, getting samples, or something else, great! It just bothers me when I see bloggers not realizing how capable they are and not knowing their worth. It honestly makes it harder for those of us out there trying to support ourselves either fully or partially because it lets brands think they have all the power. They don't. Know your worth and make sure that every collab, every transaction is mutually beneficial. Otherwise, don't do it! It's that simple.

Also, one last thing on this note: don't let comps determine your worth. You should choose a number (if that's how you want to be compensated) and stick with it if you believe it's fair. Don't worry about what other bloggers with the same following as you are charging. Stick to your guns and know that if a brand passes, they weren't worth your time!

I feel like it's always a touchy subject blogging about making money with a blog, but the truth is that it's a fact of life for many of us out there. I hope that this post helps some of you out, and if you have any opinions on this topic, leave them in the comments!

Lipstick Envy!

Hi guys!
Happy National Lipstick Day! To celebrate, I decided to do another collage sharing some lipsticks that I'm loving and lusting after! Like all my collages, I made it shopable, so click the image for more information!

So, some formulations that I love are the YSL, NARS, and MAC ones! They are my favorite, and apply super well! And for the colors that I've been loving... Pinks are always amazing, because the neutrals can be used all year round, and the brighter ones are perfect for summer!

Collective Haul!

Hey guys!
I recently got a lot of cool things that I wanted to share with you! A lot of these items were gifts that I got from friends at my grad party, and others were purchased by me or my parents because I needed them for college! Here we go!

Items Purchased:

Flower Necklace (can't find link)

I hope that you enjoyed this video! If you did, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe! I'll probably end up doing one final haul before I leave for college full of birthday presents, but I'm not promising anything! :P

Tory Burch Wishlist

Hi guys!
I wanted to do another fashion wishlist because the Kate Spade one was so fun! If you haven't seen the Kate Spade one, click here! This post is on Tory Burch because I'm so obsessed with the brand!

Tory Burch excels at natural and neutral colors! This brand is slightly edgy, and is for a woman with a mission! The shoes are amazing and even though they're neutral colors, they still make a heck of a statement! The bags are also really nice and fun, and I'm obsessed with the backpack! And lastly, the accessories are classy with the strong gold tones, but are really fun at the same time!

I'm totally going to do wishlists for more brands, so let me know what you'd like to see in the comments! Also, don't forget that this post is shopable, so click on the image of a product if you'd like more info!

Smokey Greens

Hi guys!
I wanted to experiment with color in my makeup look today and decided to go beyond the summer brights to some earthy green tones! This isn't super polished and could use some heavy black winged liner to make it perfect, but I thought I'd share anyway! This is also the makeup that you're going to be seeing on me in the next few videos!

The Inspiration: I was really inspired by forests and the darker, earthy tones. I incorporated this by forgoing blush, using a mossy green shadow on the lids, and a brown toned lipstick!

What I Did:
Face:
Sumita Eyebrow Pencil
Laura Geller Powdered Foundation focused primarily on the T-zone to prevent oiliness
Anastasia Contour Palette for light contouring and highlighting

Eyes:
Elf Eye Primer all over the lid
Urban Decay Loaded all over the lid
MAC Soft Brown in crease
Urban Decay Dragon patted over lid to enhance the green and along lower lashline
*If I could re-do this I would use MAC Blacktrack to add some winged liner
Covergirl Clump Crusher mascara on upper and lower lashes!

Lips:
Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquer "Comet"

Let me know in the comments what your favorite colors to play with are! I usually gravitate towards blue or purple myself, but I think the green was a nice change! Also, don't forget to subscribe to my youtube channel by clicking here!

Kate Spade Wishlist

Hi guys!
I thought that I'd start a new series on the blog sharing my top picks from different brands! We're starting this off with Kate Spade, because I love how feminine and girly her things are! I'll also be doing some beauty brands along with the fashion ones, so if there's a brand you'd like me to cover, let me know in the comments! Also, as usual, this is shopable so for more information on the product, click the image!

I love Kate Spade because it is classic, feminine, and fun! I'm obsessed with the glitter studs like the one in the bottom row because they just scream "party!" to me without looking too much. The bags are incredible because the styles are so simple, but the colors are fun and keep it from looking too old! And the accessories are great too because some are straight up classic pieces (like the gold watch), while others are whimsical and fun!

I hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know in the comments what other brands you'd like me to cover! I'm thinking about doing Tory Burch and Michael Kors for the fashion brands, and Urban Decay, Too Faced, and MAC for the makeup ones!

Summer Brights Makeup of the Day

Hi guys!
I did this makeup for a few videos (the luxury haul you can see here, and the best things about short hair video you can see here) and since the lighting slightly washed me out, I thought I'd take a few selfies and share the full effect with you!

Face:
Laura Geller Powder Foundation
Sumita Eyebrow Pencil
Anastasia Contour Palette

Eye:
MAC Woodwinked
MAC Blacktrack
Urban Decay Freak Eyeliner
Covergirl Clump Crusher

Lips:
OCC Anime Lip Tar

So if you can't tell what I did from the above products, I basically lightly contoured my face, filled in my brows, and set my t zone with the powder foundation. I then applied MAC Woodwinked lightly over my eyelid, applied blacktrack fluidline on the upper lashline and outer portion of lower lashline and smudged it out. I then took my Urban Decay Freak eyeliner and applied it on my inner tear duct for a pop of mint. Then I applied mascara and finished it off with my bright pink lip!

Let me know how you've been playing with color this summer in the comments below, and please follow this blog on bloglovin if you like it!

Apple and Guava Tarts

Hi guys!
I was experimenting with some tart recipes, and I made a guava apple tart that was extremely delicious that I wanted to share with you today! The crust I used is the same as the one from the Strawberry and Cream one, so you can make half and half like I did!

Crust: (makes 12 mini tarts)

Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp cold water
Directions:
  • In a food processor, pulse first four items until coarse
  • Add egg yolk and water, and continue pulsing until the dough starts to hold together
  • Form into a ball and chill in the fridge for at least 30 min
  • Place liners in muffin tins
  • Separate dough into 12 equally sized balls
  • Place each ball in a hole, and press firmly to mold. You're trying to get it to be even, and thin.
  • Prick the bottoms of the dough with a fork or sharp knife.
Filling!

Ingredients:
  • two apples, sliced
  • guava jam
  • honey
Directions:
  • Place a small spoonful of guava jam at the bottom of the tart crusts
  • Top with apple slices (as many as you want)
  • Combine equal parts honey and guava in a bowl, and spoon mixture over the top as a glaze
  • Bake in a oven at 350° for around 15 minutes

If you try this out, let me know what you think of it in the comments! Also, be sure to tag me in any pictures of my recipes! Don't forget to subscribe for more recipes and blog posts as well!

Apparel Candy Summer Wishlist!

Hi guys!
We are in the midst of a very hot summer, and I wanted to share some summery fashion and beauty products that I'm lusting after! This post is sponsored by Apparel Candy, a wholesale clothing company.

First up, here's my beauty and fashion wishlist!

Links to purchase: Bag, Eyeshadows, Orange Top, Blue Top, Olive Dress, Black Dress

This is a wholesale clothing store, so lots of the clothing items and beauty products are only available to purchase in bulk. This makes it hard to buy clothing unless you're running a store, but the bags are all able to be purchased as singles, which is amazing! The bag in the collage is my personal favorite because it screams "festival" to me, but there's a crazy amount of variety! Also, everything's so inexpensive that you can buy lots! I also love the idea of buying eyeshadows or lipsticks in bulk and giving them away as presents or stocking stuffers during Christmastime!

Now here's some sunglasses I'm loving!

Links to purchase: Aviators, Mirrored Wayfarers, Black, Pink

These wholesale sunglasses are amazing! Sunglasses break so easily and these ones are so cheap, that it's perfect for throwing in your bag! All of these are so cute, and they have a great sunglass collection, so you can find anything you want!

Let me know what items are on your summer wishlist in the comments down below! Also, if you make a purchase off of Apparel Candy, let me know what you get!

Workout Clothes Wishlist

Hi guys!
It's summer, so I bet a lot of you guys are going on hikes, walks, bike rides, and just staying active! For me, I haven't done much on the exercise front yet, but I am taking a self defense class that's keeping me busy and sore! I thought that it'd be fun to share my workout clothes (and one water bottle) wishlist just to inspire some of you guys! This is shopable as ususal, so click to buy!

I really like a lot of cut outs and unique sports bras just because they add something a little different from the norm! I live in spandies and cheer shorts, so those are always good to have around! I have a pink hydro flask that I use a lot, but that swell is so cute looking! And I'm really digging tees with cute sayings!

Let me know in the comments what's on your workout wishlist, and also let me know how you like to stay active during the summer!

5 Ways To Make Money this Summer!

Hi guys!
I know a lot of my readers are in college or are in high school and might not want to get a conventional summer job (or might not get hired), so I decided to compile a few of my favorite ways to make money!

1) Online Surveys!
This is kind of a hit or miss because some sites pay a lot more than others, and sometimes you won't qualify for surveys, but this is something I've been doing lately, and I've loved it! I use paid viewpoint because the surveys are really short and you get paid a set amount for each survey you take that increases over time! You can sign up here! I also use Survey Spot because there's so many surveys that you can really make a lot of money (you can sign up here)!

2) Make Videos / Blog!
This is more of a long term way to make money because in order to be really successful, you'll need to build a following, but by starting a youtube channel or blog you can run ads and create a steady stream of income! It's also a lot of fun to do and allows you to be creative!

3) Sell Something!
It's super easy to sell things online now, and Etsy is the easiest way to do it! I think they charge a commission off every sale and it costs something tiny to list a product, but I have friends that have become very successful off of etsy! One of my classmates has even sold a headband to Ariana Grande off of Etsy!

4) Freelance!
This is either going to really appeal to you or is not going to appeal at all, but it's worth a shot! If you're an artist, photographer, model, or writer, freelancing can be really great! You can try to find jobs online or through friends to do something that you already like to do!

5) Write a Ebook!
Ebooks are great because they cost nothing but time to produce and can sell really well! If there's a topic that you're knowledgeable about, write a book about it and list it! I think Amazon is the best way to do it, but you should do a bit of research if this is the path you're going to go!

I believe that you don't need a summer job because there's so many free things you can do (like hiking, walking, going to the beach...), but if you're looking for some extra sources of income, I hope this helps you! Let me know in the comments how you're making that money (if that's the what you're doing) this summer! I'm working retail, taking surveys, and blogging/youtubing!

Strawberries and Cream Tarts!

Hi guys!
I'm obsessed with cooking and baking, which I'm sure you can tell by the sudden influx of recipe posts on the blog! Today I'm going to share a recipe that I made! It's beautiful strawberry and pastry cream tarts! I made these bite sized, but you could also use the same recipe in a larger pan to make a big one!

We make this tart by first making the crust, then the pastry cream, and then assembling!

Crust: (makes 12 mini tarts or 1 large one)

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp cold water
Directions:
  • In a food processor, pulse first four items until coarse
  • Add egg yolk and water, and continue pulsing until the dough starts to hold together
  • Form into a ball and chill in the fridge for at least 30 min
To Form Mini Tarts
  • Place liners in muffin tins
  • Separate dough into 12 equally sized balls
  • Place each ball in a hole, and press firmly to mold. You're trying to get it to be even, and thin.
  • Prick the bottoms of the dough with a fork or sharp knife.
  • Bake at 350° until golden (around 15 minutes)
 To Form Big Tart
  • Grease a pie tin
  • Roll out dough, and place into tin
  • Prick the bottom of the dough with a knife or fork
  • Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes
Pastry Cream

Ingredients:
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • *Optional: semi-sweet chocolate chips
Directions:
  • In a small bowl, combine cornstarch, flour, egg, and sugar.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, combine milk and vanilla extract and heat until warm.
  • Take some of the milk mixture and gently stir it into egg mixture, then pour that into the saucepan. This will help prevent you from scrambling eggs in your cream!
  • Whisk the mixture until it starts to boil, making sure you scrape the edges so it doesn't burn or harden. It's important that you make sure it bubbles, because otherwise it could be gritty.
  • After it's thickened, take it off of the heat, transfer it into another bowl, and place in the fridge until cool.
  • *If you're using chocolate in it, stir in the chocolate after you remove the cream from the heat, until melted, then place in fridge!
The apple tarts will be in a separate post!

Assembling:
  • Remove crust from liners (if doing mini ones) and spoon or pipe cold pastry cream into the crust.
  • Add berries over it, and enjoy!
This was one of the longest and most complex recipes that I've done, but I promise that it's super easy and doesn't take long at all! If you try this out, please tag me in a picture because I'd love to see your creations! Also, don't forget to subscribe to my blog for more posts!

Luxury Haul!

Hey guys!
This is a very rare video for me because I don't do too many hauls, and I almost never get high-end, expensive products. But today, I'm sharing a few presents and other things I've received in the past couple weeks! Before we get in to this, a little disclaimer: I did just graduate high school, so most of the items were gifts for that. Another item was a giveaway win and the last was for my whole family! Okay, now let's go!

What's in my Summer Clutch + 10 Dollar Mall Review

Hi guys!
I have been obsessed with bright pops of color in my outfits during the summer! Usually I use sunglasses or jewelry as these bright pops, but I recently got a bag from 10 Dollar Mall that is gorgeous! I decided to do a what's in my summer clutch post for you, so I could share my summer bag must haves, and I'm also going to review the bag for you in case you're curious!

What's in my summer clutch? There is...

  • Lipstick or Lip Balm
  • Mini Hand Sanitizer
  • Sunglasses (I'm obsessed with aviators right now)
  • Keys
  • Lactaid (I'm lactose intolerant, so I keep a container with it on my keychain!)
  • Phone
  • Wallet

So now for the mini review! 10 Dollar Mall gave me a coupon code so I could choose something from their website to review! I fell in love with the Grapefruit and Turquoise clutch. I tried looking for it again today so I could link it, but I couldn't find it so it might be out of stock for the moment. Anyways, I was pretty skeptical because this clutch was less than $10. Even at Forever 21, this clutch wouldn't be that cheap! I thought that the quality might suffer because of the price point, and while there are a few things that could have been better, this is still pretty darn good.
Looking at the clutch on the exterior, it is perfect! The only manufacturing things that I disliked was how the piping that went around the edges wasn't sewn perfectly, so there were parts where you could see the white interior of the piping, if that makes sense. There's also a pocket on the inside, but it's sewn so tightly that you can't really fit anything substantial in it. I'm being a bit nitpicky, and I truly believe that this is still an amazing bag for the price.
10 Dollar Mall also sells shoes, accessories, and clothing, so if you want to see the full selection, click here!

I hope you guys enjoyed this post, and if you did please follow me on bloglovin! Also, let me know in the comments what your summer clutch necessities are!
