Summer Reading

Hi guys!
This post is a little different for this blog, and is something that I would usually write about on my personal blog (click here to see it), but I think reading is really important and since this blog gets more views, I decided it's better if I post it here. So this list is a compilation of 8 of my favorite books. There's a lot of variety in my list, and I think that everyone will be able to find a book they'd like to read!

But before we get started, I wanted to mention that I LOVE Audible! I've been using it a lot lately, and if you want to get two audio books for free, you can do so by clicking here!

1) On the Road - Jack Kerouac
People have really strong feelings about On the Road, but I'm one of the people that likes it. This book emphasizes rebellion, wanderlust, and youthfulness, which are all things that are really relevant at some point in our life.

2) The Sell - Fredrik Eklund
I love The Sell and I love Fredrik. He's by far my favorite broker on Million Dollar Listings NY and his success is astonishing. I did a whole review on the Sell, which you can watch here, but if you want to be a better businessperson, worker, or even a better human, you need to read this book!

3) The Divergent Trilogy - Veronica Roth
I really liked the Divergent books and if you haven't gotten a chance to read them yet, I strongly suggest it. I guess it's marketed as Young Adult Fiction, but I think that anyone can enjoy this book.
Buy Divergent | Buy Insurgent | Buy Allegiant

4) The Sun Also Rises - Ernest Hemingway
This is fitting since the Festival of San Fermin is only a few weeks away, and that's where the book is set in. I think this book is beautiful, and I really want to re-read it sometime this summer. Also, I think it's fitting to mention that going to San Fermin is one of the things at the top of my bucket list!

5) Paper Towns - John Green
The Paper Towns movie comes out later this summer, so I think it's a good time to read the book! I read it last summer, and I really liked it. John Green is just really good at writing character and dialogue.

6) The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald
This book is such a classic, and it really never gets old. It's definitely a book that you need to read once in your lifetime. It's also a pretty easy read, so you can read it poolside!
Buy Book | Buy Kindle | Buy Audible

7) Yes Please - Amy Poehler
This is the book that I'm currently listening to on Audible. I'm over 3/4 into it, and I am loving it! It's witty, honest, and full of really great lessons and truths. I'd strongly suggest getting the audiobook because Amy reads it herself, which makes it even more special.
Buy Book | Buy Kindle | Buy Audible

8) Driven - Robert Herjavec
I thought that I should put another business book in here! I am also reading this right now, and I'm close to finishing it. If you're a businessperson, an entrepreneur, or someone who wants to be either of those, then this is a really helpful book.

Let me know in the comments what books you're reading this summer, and what books from my list you'd like to read! Also, don't forget to get your 2 free audiobooks by clicking here!

Stylish Summer Final Thoughts

Hi guys!
I've had such an amazing Stylish Summer Challenge with you guys this year, and I wanted to do a final post summarizing my thoughts and feelings about the challenge!

I feel as though I have grown through this challenge because it has pushed me to get to know some of you better, create different types of content (fitness videos, for instance), and write more content in general.

I would really love to make this a yearly thing, but I want to know what you guys think about it all! If you could leave any suggestions to make this challenge better in the future in the comments, I would really appreciate it! In particular, I would like to know what the best and worst parts of the challenge was, and if you'd do it again next year!

Although the challenge is over, the final giveaway of the challenge is still open until next week! Enter to win a Anastasia Contour Palette (or something comparable if you already have it) in the widget!

I love you so much, and I really appreciate you spending the last 8 weeks with me!

Watergate Cake Recipe

Hi guys!
I am obsessed with watergate cake and since I was baking with my sister today, I thought it was a good time to take some pictures for a blog post! This cake is so amazingly moist and light, and the chocolate makes it super yummy! It is green, so that could possibly weird some people out, but I think it's pretty cool!

You'll Need:

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 box instant pistachio pudding
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips (milk or semi sweet work best)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup 7-up or sprite
  • 1 cup vegetable oil

Instructions:
  1. Mix everything together
  2. Bake!
    1. If you're making a cake, bake at 350°F for 45 minutes
    2. If you're making cupcakes (it makes around 24), bake at 350°F for 15 minutes

If you decide to try this recipe out, let me know your thoughts on it in the comments below! Also, you can see all my recipes by clicking here!

Sisi's Travels

Hi guys!
If you saw my latest video (click here) you already know about my newest blog, but if not, I thought I'd share with you in a blog post!

I recently started a travel blog because I'm going to be doing a bit of traveling this summer and hopefully in the coming years. I've lived in Hawaii my entire life, so that's where the blog is going to be grounded, with my favorite beaches, hikes, and restaurants, but I'm moving to Nevada for college, so there's going to be a lot about that too! This summer, I'll be in San Diego for a few days, I'll be traveling through Sacramento, and in August I'll be at Universal Studios and Disneyland, so I'll have lots of great content going up!

I really don't travel enough to make this a thorough travel blog, which is why if you're interested, I'd love to have you write a guest post! It can be about a restaurant, museum, beach, hike, whatever you want! Email me at livelovemakeup14@gmail.com if you're interested!

I would totally appreciate it if you followed my new blog on bloglovin by clicking here, and let me  know what you think about the blog in the comments! I spent a lot of time on the Navigation of the blog, so it might look funky now, but once I add more cities and states, it'll be a lot cooler!

Cute Clothes For Less than $10? (10 Dollar Mall Review)

Hi guys!
I was recently contacted by 10 Dollar Mall to do a collab! This is the first of two posts and will be my first impressions of their website! The second will go up later, and will be a review on one of the products from the website! For all of you who don't know, 10 Dollar Mall is a website that has loads of different clothing, shoes, and accessories all for less than $10. I'm a little hesitant that because of that price point the quality might not be the best, but we'll cover that in part two.

This is what the home page looks like. I was really impressed because it's a really nice, professional, website. The organization of the store is really nice, and I like how easy it is to find what you're looking for.

Shipping is something that I often worry about when ordering online because it's not that cheap to mail something to Hawaii. I plugged in my address just to see what the rates were, and it's pretty reasonable (around $7). I'm really happy with that because it's the worst when you find something you love, but shipping costs an arm and a leg...

Overall, my first impression of the website is that it seems like a really nice place to shop. I think the overall browsing/shopping experience is great, and I think that you can find a lot of great pieces and statement accessories for your wardrobe!

I was browsing and I really love the bags and the wallets (I'm eyeing the grapefruit and turquoise clutch) and I also really love how they have a plus size section of the website!

Have you bought anything from 10 Dollar Mall? Let me know in the comments below! And let me know what you'd like to see me review! I'm thinking maybe a pair of shoes or a bag just to see what the quality is like!

Mango Smoothie!

Hi guys!
It is mango season here in Hawaii, which means that I have tons of ripe mangos ready to be eaten! I decided to incorporate some of them into a smoothie that was so delicious I wanted to share with you today!

What You'll Need:

  • Blender
  • Juice of your choice (I used orange juice)
  • Mangos (I used fresh, but frozen would work too!)
  • Bananas (frozen will make it creamier)
  • Ice (optional)
  • A couple frozen strawberries
Instructions:
  1. Add all of the fruit to the blender, and add as much juice as you'd like! I like to use only a little bit of juice because I like my smoothies thicker and creamier!
  2. Blend!
  3. If you want it to be icy, add your ice and blend again!
  4. Drink up!
If you try this out, let me know in the comments down below! And also let me know what you think of these cooking posts because I love cooking and these are so much fun for me to write!

Adovia Dead Sea Salt Scrub Review!

Hi guys!
Scrubs are one of the best ways to keep your skin smooth and soft during the Summer, and Adovia sent me a sample of their skin scrub to review for you today!

I adore sea salt scrubs because they are just as good as sugar scrubs, but don't leave you or your tub sticky and gross! This one is a gorgeous blue color that is reminiscent of the sea. It also has an "ocean breeze" scent to it, which I would describe as a sweet, slightly floral, tropical scent. It kind of smells like a mens cologne to me, which I personally really love.

The scrub itself is more liquidy than I'm used to. It is so liquidy that it separates when it sits for too long, so I like to give the container a nice shake before opening it. The exfoliation is just as good as any other scrub that I have tried, but the real "wow factor" for me is that it is a lot more hydrating than the other scrubs I've tried. The scent also lingers for a while, which could be a pro or a con.

Overall, I adore this scrub! If you're too lazy to make your own scrub, or are looking for something with a great scent, this is for you! If you don't want to spend money on this, I got you covered! You can see my favorite DIY Scrub recipe here!

I hope you've been enjoying the Stylish Summer Challenge, and if you have tried out this scrub, let me know what you think of it in the comments below! You can also buy this Adovia scrub here!

Blueberry Smoothie Bowl

We finally got a new blender! It's a Ninja and it's amazing because now I can make smoothie bowls and drinks that I couldn't have before! Today, I have a blueberry smoothie bowl to share with you!

What You'll Need:

  • a blender
  • frozen bananas
  • frozen blueberries (you can use fresh too)
  • juice of choice
  • toppings! (I used banana, granola, honey on mine!)
Instructions:
  1. Place frozen bananas and frozen berries into the blender. Depending on how hard they are, add some juice to help it blend. Mine were pretty rock solid so I used 1/4 cup of juice for two bananas and a handful of blueberries.
  2. Blend until smooth! Be patient, this will take some time! It should be thick like a milkshake consistency, but if you want it thinner, you can add juice and blend again.
  3. Pour your smoothie into a bowl and add your toppings on top!
  4. Enjoy!
I hope that you guys enjoyed this recipe, and if you try it out, let me know! Also, I completely re-did the recipe tab in the header, so check that out too!
