Black Eye Makeup Tutorial

Hey guys!
So I know that this is literally the day before Halloween, but if you're still out of a costume idea, you can do this black eye makeup tutorial, and the open wound or chopped hands tutorial and go as something super scary! Like a zombie!

Face:
I'm going to say don't do anything. Maybe a little contouring, but you don't want blush or flawless skin. You want to look tired, and dirty, and not perfect. If you do anything, I'd suggest do your brows because that actually makes a difference in the overall appearance.

Eyes:
Start by taking a black eye pencil and taking it around the eye socket. Just in a circle around the top and the bottom, right where your eye socket meets the orbital bone. Then take the black eye pencil along your lashlines and fill in your waterline. Fill in the area inbetween with black and red eyeshadow, and start blending it everywhere! Finally, take a red lipstick (or a purple one) and start dabbing it along the outer edges. This will help blend it and will make it more dramatic!

Lips:
I would go nude with this. Like concealer nude. Don't bother with a lipgloss because you want it to be matte, just like it would be if you were dead!

So I hope you enjoyed this final halloween tutorial! Don't forget to follow me on bloglovin, and check out my two prosthetic makeup tutorials here and here!

Chopped Off Hands Makeup Tutorial

Hi guys!
I wanted to do another makeup tutorial for you guys! I was going to do one on my face and film it, but it never ended up looking good, and I was unhappy with the footage, so I decided to do this and write a blog post on it!

Prosthetic:
I applied a two parallel lines of liquid latex on my wrist, around an inch and a half apart. You can vary the width of the lines and the space between them, although remember that the wider the space, the easier it is to contour it! Then put on either rolled up pieces of toilet paper or strips of cotton on top, and cover with another layer of the liquid latex.

Makeup:
Cover everything with a foundation matching your skintone. Use a matte burgundy/red eyeshadow to fill in the space between the lines as well as around the perimeter. Then take a matte black eyeshadow on an angled brush and apply it on the inner parts, where the shadows would be if it were real. Then take a liquid lipstick (red) or fake blood, spread it around the inner part of the "wound" and around the edges too! I took a sponge to buff out the edges to make it blurry and seamless, but you could leave it rough and rugged if you wanted!

So I hope this made sense! I'm definitely not the best at explaining, but this was all pretty straightforward and I think you should be able to do this easily! Let me know what you think of it in the comments, and remember that if you're going to do this, you can do it on the top of your hand, bottom, or all the way around!

Why I'm Boycotting Aeropostale

Hey guys!
So today I read online that Aeropostale made Nash Grier one of their new faces. Nash has previously made racist, sexist, and homophobic remarks, and I don't believe that this was appropriate and I don't think that Aero should have hired him. In the video, I read some of his tweets, his apology, and share my thoughts on this controversy.

Let me know in the comments what your thoughts on the Nash Grier controversy are because I know Perez Hilton and a whole lot of other people feel the same way as I do! Also, if you like this video, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel!

Open Wound Tutorial

Hey guys!
I probably should have filmed a video when I did this, but I didn't, so I thought I'd try to explain it as well as I could in this blog post! So here is how to make an open wound!

Apply a layer of liquid latex (you could also use normal tacky glue or eyelash adhesive if you want to), wait until it's tacky and place some toilet paper over it. Rip the toilet paper off, so the edges are jagged and it's stuck well to the skin. Continue layering the liquid latex and toilet paper until it is the desired thickness, keeping in mind that it needs to blend seamlessly with your actual skin.

After it has dried a little bit, take a tooth pick and start picking at the center, making a circle and creating depth. Be careful not to pick at your actual skin, though, and take your time! I also took some tweezers and lifted the layers around the wound to add dimension and depth.

Cover everything with foundation! I did this on my hand, so my foundation didn't match perfectly, but try to get it as close as possible to your skintone!

Take a matte red or berry shade (I used a blush) around the edges and in the "wound". I then layered a burgundy matte shade and layered it over the top, making sure to blend well. Finally, I added some black around the inside portion to create shadows and more depth.

You could use liquid "blood" for this step, but I actually used my OCC lip tars! I put a drop or two, and spread it around the wound, and let it drip down my hand. I used a cotton swab to spread it and create texture.

So that's it! I hope that this was helpful, and I'm so sorry that I didn't make a video on this! Leave any questions below if you have any, and I'll be sure to answer it! Also, make sure that you have fun with this and tweet me some of your pictures because I'd love to see you recreate it!

Dimensional Red Lipstick Combo

Hey guys!
I did this lip look the other day when I was filming my Mary Kay Skincare Unboxing, and I thought that I'd share it with you!

First, I started by lining my lips with my Sephora Nano Liner in Pleasant Plum. This lip liner is a very dark, very vampy lip liner, but it applied a little bit more uneven than I would have liked it, and it was a bit darker than I anticipated, so I decided to put a a red lipstick over it. I chose Mirenesse Glossy Kiss in #2, Flirty Kiss and applied it over the top. It made the lips look more red, and glossy, while still giving the dimensional undertones of the plum lip liner.

So I hope you enjoyed this really quick lipstick combo! It's definitely one that I'll be wearing more! Let me know what your favorite red lipstick is in the comments below, and don't forget to follow me on bloglovin!

Links I'm Loving #1

Hey guys!
I want to start up a weekly post all about links that I've read on other sites that I want to share with you guys! The majority of my online reading consists of Forbes, Fast Company, and Entrepreneur, so you'll be getting a lot of business related links, but maybe also some beauty and fashion ones! I know that Cali from CaliJae does this on her blog (I'll link her latest one here) and it's one of my favorite posts that she does, so I thought I'd be a little copycat and start it here too!

RIP Oscar De La Renta

Unfortunately today, the notable fashion designer, Oscar De La Renta, has passed away. He was 82 years old, and has been battling cancer since 2006. He has dressed some of the most gorgeous brides, first ladies, and celebrities, and recently dressed Amal Alamuddin for her wedding to George Clooney. Oscar De La Renta has always been one of my personal favorite designers because of the way he effortlessly mixed the old with the new. The new world with the old world. It gave a very feminine, yet modern spin on couture.

To celebrate the life of Oscar De La Renta, I compiled a mini collage of my 9 favorite jewelry and fashion pieces from his line.

I am so sad to see one of the greatest fashion designers of all time leave, but his impact on fashion will remain for years to come. Let me know which one of the pieces in the collage is your favorite in the comments!

Too Faced Melted Fuchsia Review

Hey guys!
Today, I'm reviewing the Too Faced Melted Fuchsia liquid lipstick! I already reviewed melted berry, so if you'd like to see that review, click here!  This particular melted shade is also included in a set of 4 (along with melted berry, melted nude, and melted peony), and retails for $25! If you'd like to buy the kit, you can click here!  Okay, so let's get into the review!

Packaging:
The packaging on these melted lipsticks are super nice! It is a matte hot pink tube (the tube color corresponds to the shade of lipstick) and the cap and gold stripes on the tube are metallic! The applicator on these lipsticks is a slanted fabric applicator that works pretty well for applying the product, although with a color this bright, the applicator isn't as precise as I'd like it to be. Also, the style of the applicator also makes me worry about the safeness of this product (if you keep it for over a couple months) as theres not a way to really clean the applicator.

Shade:
This shade is gorgeous! It seemed sheerer to me than the melted berry shade did, but at the same time it is able to be layered, so you can go from sheer to full opacity! This shade dries to a matte finish and lasted me around 4 hours (lots of talking and drinking, minimal eating), but after 3 hours it started to look like it needed to be reapplied. This is a warmer toned pink, so it can have some issues with making your teeth look unnecessarily yellow, but I didn't notice any problems with that.

Final Thoughts:
This shade isn't anything particularly new or exciting. But with that being said, this formula is one of the better longer lasting formulas out there because the matte formula sticks to the lips really well. I, personally, wouldn't buy this shade alone because there are similar shades at the drugstore (maybelline shocking coral comes to mind), but because it's in the set, I think that it's a little more justifiable (at least in my mind!)

So I hope you liked this post, don't forget to follow me on bloglovin because the other two shades in the set will be reviewed as soon as possible! I just have to write the Melted Nude post and start testing Melted Peony! Also, let me know if you've tried this particular shade of the Melted Lipsticks and your thoughts on it!

I've been doing lots of top 9 posts, and this one is going to be all about scarves! I actually never wear scarves because it never gets cold enough in Hawaii to wear one, but the ones that I picked out are absolutely cute and wonderful!

Let me know which scarves are your favorites in the comments, also all of these are shopable, so you can click on the image to be redirected to purchase! ...And don't forget, you can always shop y favorite things in the "shop" section of the blog!

Throwback Thursday #4

Hey guys!
So I've missed the last couple throwback thursday posts, but I have one for you today! I have a couple of tutorials from November last year that I wanted to show you guys again, as well as some TAGs!

1) 4 Step Eyes for a Bold Lip!
I know that bold lips are super in for fall, and I thought that I'd share this post again, because it lets you do really simple eyes quickly!

2) Sephora Nano Liner in "Pleasant Plum" Review
This is one of my favorite deep, vampy lip shades, and I am definitely going to need to pull this out of my drawer! It's so pretty, and I forgot how good it looks when it's applied!

3) Minimal Eyes and Berry Lips!
I love this makeup look that I did, because the berry lips are pink enough and light enough to be worn during the day! I've been re-creating this look a lot lately, too!

4) Sweater Weather TAG!
I just re-read my answers to this TAG, and all of them are really relevant and are still practically the same a year later! If you haven't read this one yet, I highly recommend it as it's one of my favorite TAGs I've done!

So those are four of my favorite throwback posts! Check them out, and leave me suggestions in the comments for new posts and videos as I'm interested to hear what you'd like to see! Also, don't forget to follow me on bloglovin!

Too Faced Melted Berry Review!

Hi guys!
I recently got a set of 4 too faced melted lipsticks from Macy's, and I thought that I'd do individual reviews as I try them out! This one will be on Melted Berry, although I also have Peony, Nude, and Fuchsia (reviews on those will be up soon)! If you are going to get this, I'd strongly suggest getting it in the set of 4 (which costs $25) instead of getting it as a single ($21) because the minis will last a while and you get to try more shades! You can purchase the set I have by clicking here.

Packaging
I love this packaging! The tube itself is matte berry (the color of the tube corresponds to the shade of the lipstick) and the gold stripes and cap are shiny! I bet a lot of you have see the applicator, so I won't go too much into it, but it makes it a lot easier to apply the lip product, although I think sanitation is a concern (especially if you're going to keep this product around for a while). Also, the applicator might be weird if you aren't used to it because with a shade like this, you want to keep the edges really clean and in the lines!

Shade
Melted berry is a berry shade, although it leans a little more "rasberry" than "blackberry" (more red than purple) if you know what I'm saying! This shade is a bit brighter than I expected it to be. You can build it up by layering it on, but if you apply it lightly (like I did), it isn't as deep as the packaging. It has a matte finish on the lips, which I really enjoy, and it's awesome because it doesn't dry out your lips. It actually feels like there's nothing on your lips! I've heard other bloggers call the scent "plasticy", which I don't agree with. The scent is sweet, but honestly I had to stick my nose right next to it in order to smell it. If you're applying it, the smell shouldn't be a problem and once it's on, you don't smell anything!

Final Thoughts
I absolutely get the hype now! This is the first shade that I've tried, but it's amazing! It lasted over 4 hours before I felt like I needed to reapply, and when I reapplied, it was only for vibrancy because it still looked pretty good! I love matte lips and I appreciate a good matte product that feels good on the lips. If you're looking for a good berry shade for fall and winter, this one is definitely a winner!

Let me know what you're thoughts are on melted berry, and if you want to purchase it individually you can do so here, and if you want to get the set of 4 (highly recommend!) you can click here! Also, please subscribe on bloglovin so you know when posts are uploaded (it's free!)

Makeup Collection and Storage!

Hey guys!
It's been forever since I've done a makeup collection and it was about time to do another one! I don't have a huge collection, but that's mostly because I'm trying to whittle my collection down, so if I end up moving away next year I won't have a billion products to move! I don't say names of everything, so leave comments down below if you want to know something particular you see in this video!

I hope you enjoyed this video, and please give it a thumbs up and subscribe! Also, let me know how you store your makeup in the comments below because I love seeing how different people do things differently!

Blogging is a Lot Harder Than it Seems

Hi guys!
So this is a different, not beauty/fashion related, post that I wanted to do because of some misconceptions about blogging. It is literally as time consuming (if not more) than a part time job, and on top of that most of the bloggers I know are either interning, working, or going to school along with blogging! So for all you non bloggers, these are all the things that go into blogging/youtubing!

  • Writings posts and yes, this includes editing, taking a billion pictures, editing those pictures until they're just right, and then adding links to purchase, or links to other relevant posts
  • Social media this includes scheduling facebook posts to go off when you're sleeping and at work, tweeting, re-tweeting, tumblr blogging, pinning, liking, sharing (the list can go on and on)...
  • Commenting on other people blogs so you can make little blogger buddies while sending people to your blog at the same time
  • Filming videos including doing your hair and makeup, getting the lighting perfect, and editing them so they aren't a billion minutes long
  • Responding to emails from companies, other bloggers, comments, questions, and more!
  • Planning for when you're going to upload what, what you're going to write/film, and deciding when to upload things before holidays and things like that
Blogging is a ton of work, but I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining! There is nothing I would rather do than blog all day everyday, but some of the misconceptions really bother me! If you're a blogger, let me know if I'm missing anything in my little list above, and I'll add it! Also, follow me on bloglovin for more posts!

Top 9 Bags for Fall!

Hey guys!
I decided that I'd do a top 9 bags for fall because if you follow me on twitter (@a_modern_girl) you see me posting links to bags I'm lusting after all the time! You can click the picture to see all the details about it (like price and retailer), so let's get started!

As you can see, I'm really into neutral tones as well as deeper colors. I love unusual neutrals that either have interesting finishes (2nd row, first bag) or with interesting shades (like second row, third bag), or interesting finishes (like second row middle bag)! I also love purples, burgundy, and even royal blue for fall because they are deeper versions of shades that will look great with the grays and knits that we wear in fall!

Let me know what your favorite bags are in the comments, and if you want, you can click the arrow next to the middle row of bags and scroll through some other things that I'm loving!

Work Clothes Haul

Hey guys!
So first off, let me say how sorry I am that this video is going up so late! I legit filmed it over two weeks ago, but I had other "more time sensitive" videos to get up (like the everyday makeup tutorial I promised you guys as well as my collab with Hope!), so this one kind of got left in the dust... I mention the Macy's VIP sale in this video, which is over (because it happened 3 weeks ago), but you can still sign up for thanks for sharing, which is amazing because you get 10% back until the end of december!

Links to buy:

Thank you guys for watching this video, and if you enjoyed it please subscribe to my youtube channel and give this video a thumbs up! It really does help a ton! Also, a makeup collection will be going up later this week, so get excited for that!

Top 9 Fall Shoes!

Hi guys!
It's a new season, so I'm sure some of you are buying new clothes (like shoes)! I thought it would be really fun to do a top 9 fall shoes post because I've been experimenting with collages recently, and I've been loving looking at different shoes online!

If you want to see prices, sizes, and all of those details, you can click the shoe you're interested in! I'm not going to do individual blurbs on each shoe, but I am going to say what types of shoes and colors and styles I've been loving for fall!

Taupe has been absolutely wonderful! I am someone that gravitates towards browns usually (like row 2, column 1) but taupe has been the color of the season.

Black and nude are always in and always timeless, but the styles of the shoes make them stand out! I love those "bootie" style shoes with cut outs, and also just plain platform shoes! Zippers and laces add some interest, and calf boots are always amazing for fall, but get glammed up with a little heel!

So those are my top 9 shoes! Let me know which ones are your favorites in the comments below, and follow me on bloglovin!

-Sisi

Oh and since I haven't done one of these in a while... I'm in to Eleventh Gorgeous! I used to watch their videos a while ago, but just got back into watching them a week or two ago! And I'm over my job! I had to stay two hours after the store closed because the cash register was so screwed up!

Starting a Blog Part 6: Making it Shopable

Hey guys!
I have to be honest with you... my blog wasn't shopable until I got a request to do this post... It seems crazy to me that it wasn't, because it's so easy and it is just another great way to monetize your blog! I did some research and these are some websites that might be able to help you!

ShopSense
This is what I use, and also what Elle Fowler uses on her blog. It's great because it has a little widget on the website that lets you pick the layout of the pictures! You also get to see a bit of analytics with the website, but the best part is that anyone can join! It also pays per click and although shopsense doesn't disclose how much you make per click, I've heard from other bloggers that it usually starts at 5 cents per click then after a few months drops to 3 cents per click.

RewardStyle
This is a bit trickier because you need to be approved in order to start using the site and because I have never used it, I can't tell you what criteria they are looking for. I believe its the same style as shopsense in the sense that you can put your pictures in a grid-like format, and you get paid, but I'm not quite sure about the logistics of it all. I don't know if you get paid commission, impression, or per click, so sorry! For reference, Makeup by TiffanyD uses RewardStyle on her blog!

Amazon
Amazon can be used to make your blog shopable, and if you're already using amazon affiliate links it could be smart to maximize your income from that one source, but at the same time they have "uglier" pictures than the other sites and the layout doesn't look nearly as clean when you use this! Amazon pays a commission per purchase.

So I hope this was helpful! I'll be sure to update this when I find more websites that can make you blog shopable! Also, don't forget to leave a comment below with suggestions for other Starting a Blog posts because I love researching these things and I think that they can be super helpful for you guys!

Ask Me Style Questions!

Hey everyone!
So as most of you know, I've worked with What Goes With This in the past, and I've reviewed their site for you (which you can read here if you haven't already)!

They actually contacted me the other day about something amazingly awesome that they just came up with! It's a button that we can add to our blogs so that you guys (our readers) can ask us style questions! You can ask anyone questions on WGWT, but the great thing about the button is that you'll be sending it to me so I can be sure to answer your question! It can be anything from "find me some cute boots" to "how do you wear a sheer sweater" and I'll be sure to answer it for you!

So the button will always be in the side bar right under my archive, but I'll add it into this post in case you want to ask me something right now!

I hope that you'll ask me tons of questions and that you check out what goes with this, because it really is just a fantastic website!
