What I Hate About The Beauty Community

Hi guys!
So as you can tell from the title, this is going to be a post all about what I hate about the beauty community. There are a lot more things that I like about the community than I dislike about it, but I thought that I'd do something different and talk about things that I wish weren't there or were changed about the beauty community!

First off, I really dislike the people who are in this for the money. Sure I run ads on my videos and I have ads on my blog (in the side bar), but the amount of money I made is literally so tiny compared to what other people make (both in the online and real world). If you are in this community for the money, get out! Like I don't want you here, and I'm sure that other people who actually try to post quality content don't want you here either! This isn't some sort of "get rich scheme" and it really bothers me when people treat it like one because for the 99% of us who aren't super big or successful we're doing it for the love of beauty and fashion and not because we are making millions a year because that's ridiculous.

Next I am bothered by the assumption that when we as beauty bloggers or vloggers are gifted products, we are being "bought" by the company and we're being "forced" to write good reviews. I know that the majority of bloggers out there, myself included, won't write review if we think the product is bad and we communicate with the company and say that we don't want to bash their product on the internet. Sure some bloggers will do sponsored posts where the brand has tons of input into the post, but 99% of the time that's not the case.

Going along with that, I hate when people think that we lie in our FTC disclaimers. I have never, personally, lied on a video or blog post and I've never been shady about when I work with companies. I think its kind of insulting the fact that people think we lie on our disclaimers because I know that all the bloggers that I know would never do that to our readers.

I also hate how there seems to be a big divide between members of the community. I get that its natural that the people who have done it longer are friends and the newbies are friends too, but that separation is sad and I wish that it wasn't there.

So I'm sorry if this was a downer of a post, but it was something that has been on my mind recently and I wanted to share with you guys! Like I said in the beginning, there are so many things that I love about the beauty community and I love more things than I hate (I can do a post on things that I love about it to balance it out if you want). This might be weird, but let me know in the comments what you hate about the beauty community, if you feel comfortable sharing, because I think that if we get everything out there, we can start to make the beauty community better! Sorry about how sad and angry this post sounds, because that was not my intention at all!

Love you all so, so, so much!

... And as usual I'm
Into: my new, shiny, custom domain! Yes my blog is now www.modernbeautygirl.com instead of modernbeautygirl.blogspot.com!!!
Over: school! I start school tomorrow and I'm just absolutely dreading it. I don't understand people who are actually excited to go back to school. Like are you shitting me? I'm especially not excited for "Advanced pre Calculous" and "AP Physics". Those just sound horrific.

  1. (Again I'm loving your Into and Over section)
I was really nervous when i started reading tise post because sometimes I feel protective of the community(ridiculous) and thought - oh god please don't bash it - but I totally agree with everything you have said!
I despise it when people hate on others for 'forced' articles or doubt their opinions on sponsored posts etc - Do these people read magazines? Guess what beauty editors don't pay for any product either, and they are not at risk of losing their job by giving a really shit product a great review - if a blogger does the same thing and losers followers they effectively threaten their own 'job'. You would be crazy to do it.
Sorry I have written a whole new post in the comments, and I feel like I could go on - perhaps I will have to do an inspired by post!

  2. thanks Kelsey! I'm glad you're enjoying the into it and over it section! I am so glad you agree with what I'm trying to say! I love the beauty community a lot, but I think that there are things that need to be changed in order for the community to grow and get better! I totally agree with what you said in your comment!
