Makeup of the Night: Taupe Smokey Eyes

Sorry about the bad lighting!
I took this in the car and the natural light was weird!
Hi beauties!
I am going to do a makeup of the night post really quickly! I was going out to a family dinner and I wanted to do something nighttime, but not too sexy or smokey or over the top. I really like what I came up with and fun fact: even my mom complimented me on this makeup! So let's get started!

Face
I covered up a few scars and breakouts with my bobbi brown concealer. I also used a little bit of a peachy blush on my cheeks and I didn't use a foundation, but my skin was a little oilier than usual so I used a light dusting of a pressed powder on my T-Zone.

Eyes
First I primed my eyelids. Then I took a medium shimmery taupe shade (the crease shade from wet n wild's sweet as candy trio). I patted this shade all over the lid, taking it into the crease. You want to shape this color how you'd like your finished look to look so I made it go out higher at the outer portion of my crease and go lower towards the inner corner, but you can do whatever you desire! Then I took a blending brush with a smidge of the taupe shade and buffed out right above the crease. I think it helps to have a little color on the blending brush because it buffs it out more easily and doesn't take as much effort. I finished with a light, white highlighter (the highlight shade from the sweet as candy trio). To do the "smokey" part, I took a pencil liner and messily drew a thick line on my upper lashes. Then I took a smudge brush (but a q-tip, or a angled brush works well too) and smudged and smoked it out, smoking it up and not out. To add to the smokiness, I took a shimmery black shade on that smudge brush and ran it over the liner to intensify it. But that step was optional! I took a brown pencil liner and put it on the lower lashline, but if I had a gray or taupe liner, I would use that, and I smudged it out too, so it wasn't too harsh. I finished with 2 coats of benefit "they're real" mascara!

Lips
I used my POP Aqua Lacquer in Floating Rose (to read my review of it click here) just because I didn't want to go too nude and I didn't want something I'd need to touch up a lot! It was basically for the shine!

So that was my makuep of the night! Let me know your thoughts on it in the comments below and also let me know whether you usually play up your eyes or your lips!
